Every passenger gets three free pieces of luggage. Above that, you pay for one extra adult ticket. Folded strollers free, opened ones officially extra. Bikes only on a few specific lines.

These are the rules straight from ACTV. They have not changed in years and are the same on every vaporetto, bus and tram.
Length + width + height combined. A typical airline cabin bag (55 × 40 × 23 = 118 cm) just fits.
A standard large suitcase (75 × 50 × 25 = 150 cm) — exactly the limit. Hold luggage will usually fit.
Above three pieces, or above the size limits, you pay for one additional adult ticket per extra item. Single 75-minute ticket fare.
Folded strollers travel free as one of your three luggage pieces. Opened strollers technically need an extra ticket but are widely tolerated in practice, especially on quieter lines.
Bikes are not allowed on most central vaporetti. They are allowed (with a separate bike ticket €1.50) on Line 17 (car ferry Tronchetto ↔ Lido) and on the bus + ferry Line 11 to Pellestrina and Chioggia.
Items over 150 cm require advance arrangement with ACTV. For a typical 175 cm surfboard or a kayak, ask the captain before boarding — they decide on a case-by-case basis.
On busy summer days yes, especially on the Lines 1 and 2 from Marco Polo via the Aerobus connection. With a normal one-large + one-small suitcase setup you will never be questioned. Three big suitcases per person is when it gets checked.
Yes — one dog per passenger, free. Muzzle and leash officially required (rarely enforced). Guide dogs are exempt from the muzzle requirement and ride free as standard.
KeyCafe lockers at Santa Lucia station, several BagBnb host shops across the city, and the official deposito bagagli at Piazzale Roma. €5–€10 per piece per day. Useful between hotel checkout and your evening departure.
