A complete loop around Venice — past Murano, Cannaregio, Piazzale Roma, Giudecca, San Zaccaria, the Arsenale and back. 4.1 goes anti-clockwise, 4.2 clockwise. Sightseeing without the Grand Canal crowd.
Line 4.1
Line 4.1 — outer ring, anti-clockwise
The circolari are Venice's outer-ring vaporetti. Both lines do the same complete loop but in opposite directions. 4.1 anti-clockwise: Murano → Fondamente Nove → Cannaregio → Ferrovia → Piazzale Roma → Sacca Fisola → Giudecca → San Zaccaria → Arsenale → back to Murano. 4.2 is the mirror image, every 20 minutes.
Take 4.1 or 4.2 from Fondamente Nove to Murano in around 15 minutes — the most relaxed island start, no Grand Canal queue. Switch to Line 12 at Murano Faro to continue to Burano.
Pick a 4.1 or 4.2 at any stop and ride a complete loop (~1h30) past Cannaregio, Murano, Giudecca, San Zaccaria. Cheaper than a tour, quieter than Line 1, and you see Venice from every angle.
Line 4.2 starts at about 04:37 from Murano — the earliest outer-ring departure. Useful if you arrived overnight and want to be at the Rialto Market for opening at 07:30.
The outer ring opens up the parts of Venice the Grand Canal lines never see. Quieter, more local, full of underrated stops.
All four Murano stops — Colonna, Faro, Navagero, Museo. Visit a glass-blowing workshop without taking the busier Line 12.
Stops at Orto, Sant'Alvise and Guglie open up Venice's historic Jewish Ghetto and the local Cannaregio bars and cicchetti scene.
The lesser-known western Giudecca — Sacca Fisola is a residential Venice almost no tourist sees. Quiet wandering, real life.
The green eastern end of Venice — gardens, the Biennale pavilions, and the calm Sant'Elena neighbourhood.
Off-tourist Castello — San Pietro was Venice's cathedral until 1807. Certosa is a hidden island with a marina and quiet woods.
4.1 runs anti-clockwise (Murano → Cannaregio → Piazzale Roma → Giudecca → San Zaccaria → Murano), 4.2 runs clockwise — the mirror image. Same route, both included in every Vaporetto ticket.
About 1 hour 30 minutes for the full circle. Most riders use a segment rather than the whole loop.
Not the fastest — that is Line 3 (Mon–Fri only, ~20 min from Piazzale Roma). But 4.1 and 4.2 run all week and all evening, so they are the most reliable.
