A bigger, gentler boat (the motonave). San Marco-San Zaccaria to Lido to Punta Sabbioni — and from there a short walk to the wide Cavallino-Treporti beaches. Half-hourly, almost round the clock.
Line 14
Line 14 — S.Marco ↔ Punta Sabbioni (motonave)
Line 14 is one of Venice's few motonave (motor-boat) lines — wider, taller, more stable than the standard vaporetto. From San Marco-San Zaccaria it crosses to Lido S.M.E., then on across the Adriatic mouth to Punta Sabbioni. From Punta Sabbioni a 5-minute walk gets you to the beach, or local buses run on to Jesolo and Caorle. Some departures continue on to Burano.
Catch Line 14 at San Zaccaria around 09:30, arrive at Punta Sabbioni an hour later, walk to the beach. The Cavallino-Treporti beaches are quieter than the Lido and the water is shallow — great with kids.
Line 14 runs at 00:30, 02:16, 03:16 and 04:16 from San Marco — so if you go to a beach restaurant in Cavallino for dinner, you can still get home without a taxi.
Unlike the standard vaporetto, the motonave gives you an upper sun deck. Great for a slow crossing past the Castello shore and out into the lagoon mouth — bring sunglasses and a hat.
Line 14 takes you to the Adriatic-facing edge of the lagoon — wide beaches that locals actually use, plus a quiet alternative to the Lido.
The start of the line — right next to Piazza San Marco, the Doge's Palace and the Bridge of Sighs.
The Belle Époque heart of the Lido — Gran Viale, Hotel Excelsior, the public beach. The Venice Film Festival home in early September.
End of the line — a 5-minute walk to the long Cavallino-Treporti beaches. Shallow water, wide sand, family-friendly.
A 15-kilometre strip of beach east of Punta Sabbioni. Free public sections plus paid lidos with loungers and lifeguards.
Some Line 14 departures continue from Punta Sabbioni on to Burano. Check the display — a great alternative back to Venice via the northern lagoon.
Almost. Half-hourly during the day, then night sailings at 00:30, 02:16, 03:16 and 04:16 from San Marco. The only window with no service is roughly 04:30–06:00.
Some Line 14 departures continue from Punta Sabbioni on to Treporti and Burano (about 20 more minutes). Check the display at the pontoon — not every departure does.
Very. The water shelves shallowly for a long way out, the sand is wide, and Punta Sabbioni has paid lidos (lifeguards, sun loungers) and free public stretches. Children under 6 ride Line 14 free.
